FFF Ashland Demands:1. CLIMATE EMERGENCY
We are demanding that Governor Evers as well as every County & City declare a climate emergency. We need to acknowledge the crisis that is before us and hold lawmakers accountable to the looming global deadline. We can't begin to take action without first addressing that the crisis is a reality. 2. NO HAZARDOUS PIPELINES Enbridge Line 5, an aging oil pipeline owned by a Canadian company, runs through the Bad River Reservation and underneath the Straits of Mackinac, threatening to pollute the water. Line 3 is another Enbridge pipeline that runs through northern Minnesota and connects to Line 5 in Superior. We are calling for the decommissioning of Line 5 and Line 3. We stand with Bad River and Red Cliff in defending their land, water, and treaty rights, as well as all other communities who want hazardous pipelines off their land. 3. <1.5C. Create a safe pathway to keep global temperature change under 1.5C. 4. PARIS CLIMATE ACCORD We demand that the US align with the rest of the world by rejoining the Paris Climate Accord. 5. CARBON TAX We support H.R. 763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. This bill puts a slow-growing fee on fossil fuels, and redistributes that money evenly to American Citizens. 6. SCIENCE We demand that politicians and decision-makers unite behind the science of climate change. 7. CLIMATE JUSTICE The climate crisis and environmental degradation do not impact everyone equally. We demand that the principles of climate justice and equity are incorporated into every conversation and policy about the climate crisis. |

For example, “global warming” becomes “global heating,” and “biodiversity” becomes “wildlife.” o Do not publish statements that cast doubt on the scientific consensus that a catastrophic climate crisis is under way and driven by human activity. o Do not print the opinion of writers who cast doubt on the scientific consensus and the effects of the climate emergency. 5. ENACT CLIMATE STANDARDS FOR POLITICAL ENDORSEMENTS. o At a minimum, prerequisites should include support for halting all new fossil fuel infrastructure, support for a climate plan with zero emissions in 10 years or less and the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. 6. REMOVE FINANCIAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST. 1. Ban advertising from companies that trade in fossil fuels. 2. Divest from fossil fuel companies. |
